Hello all MFKers.

I got my 1st pair of fighting fish exactly 6 days ago after keeping fish for more than a year. I seperated the pair and put them in they're spawning tank around 3 days ago and bubble nest building started. Today I see eggs! I seperated the female and my male's bubble nest is very very very very small and he eats the eggs!! Or mayb he is a mouthbrooder I am not sure how can i confirm?

Next, I wanna start to breed more bettas so I was wondering how many tanks do you have for:

- Male and female during seperation
- Spawning tank
- Fry grow out tank

And what do you guys feed them to condition bettas? and to feed fry?

I jus feed wat i found around the house lol like MW slices(they're meat is easier to hold on to than they're shell), tilapia, and flakes...

It all depends on how many different pairs of bettas you want breeding. I would say you need separation tanks for each betta, but that can be easily accomplished by mason jars. The same for spawning tanks, you'll need as many as you think you'll be spawning at one time, but I would stick with this one for now to see how you get the hang of it.

Most people use a 55 gallon for a grow out tank for the fry, expect 3 months before you will be able to separate the males from females.

I always used live black worms, blood worms, etc. to condition the bettas prior to spawning, anything really that has a high percent of protein, especially for the female. Betta fry are a little more difficult, since they have labyrinths, their mouths are very small so even brine shrimp are sometimes too big for them. You can also use infusoria, which is a small organism usually grown by putting old lettuce in a jar of water, or just use brine shrimp and only the bigger, stronger fry will survive.

The male is not a mouth brooder, its just the eggs will fall out of the nest and he spends his time picking them up to put them back in the nest. And make sure to keep the fry warm! 82 degrees and 85% humidity are pretty essential for the correct formation of the labyrinth! Good luck!

for me i have 10 pairs of breeding betta each in there different cups all labeled with numbers so i know whos batch is whos..then for my main breeding tank i have a 20g i let the male roam free in the tank while the female is in a cup IN the tank..temp set at 83 degrees...tank water filled 6-7" they can see each other day in and day out usually a week later i let the female go once i see his bubble nest is big enough..2-3 hours later i take the female out..leaving the male in there to care for eggs at this time "DO NOT feed the male" at all while hes with the eggs feeding him will spark his hunger and eat all your eggs...after they hatch i take the male out..i usually start feeding fry 5-6 days after hatching..

conditioning your betta feed live bloodworms

ok.. I see many people using paper cups for the males to build bubble nests is this to avoid it to be annoyed or something and i need a bare tank right for the breeding tank. Lastly, how long do I have to wait for the pair to be able to mate again?

Thanks
