i heard that bettas like their water to be for the most part stagnant.

so im wondering what is the best filtration for 2.5 gal betta tank?

also wondering what people think about little box filters?

Maybe one of those tiny internal filters you can put on the botton?.
I don't think they need a filter at all, it just extends time between water changes.

Sponge filter would be fine. You just don't want alot of water movement, and if they are breeding you'll have to shut it off or it will break up the bubble nest.

If you mean the air powered box filters, they have their place (such as here). For light bio-loads (ie small fish (guppies / tetra's / neons etc), most small fish breeding tanks and fry growout tanks.

Thinking of buying stock in a box filter company? :D

nope, i just happened to be in a pet shop the other day and they had a little box filter that fits in the palm of my hand. it was on sale for a buck, it was in a box that looked like it went through the sixties. (probably found it in the stock room years after they where supposed to sell it) so i got it, figured i could try it out for a buck. its called The bubbler.

i found a picture of one on this site.

The box filters work fine, same general idea as the sponge filter, when you clean it never replace more than 1/2 the media at once.Use a gang valve or adjustable rate air pump yto have a slow flow of bubbles in the betta tank.
