I recently made this tank using silicone II, completely ignorant to the fact that there even was a difference, and my betta started acting funny within a few hours.
I moved him back to his old bowl, but by morning my poor Squishy had passed :(

That being said, I went to petsmart and purchased 2 gold fish, then went and got the material to build another little tank, but this time i used silicone I (it said aquarium safe) I put one gold fish in the new tank, and one in the old. The outcome was as expected.
The fish in the new tank lives today, and the old one died in a day and a half.

This can have more than one conclusion.

Bettas are known to be kind of brittle to tank changes, gold fish dont seem to care, so naturally you'd expect the gold fish to live longer. However, i did clean out the tank many times and it had been soaking for a few days by then. So maybe whatever it was that killed my Betta was less potant by the time the goldfish got there.

I hope the best for all your future fish! Let me know your experience!

sorry for your loss, although im not sure what you were trying to do with the goldfish.

well, bettas often die from just from a bowl change. i wanted to verifythat it was indeed the silicone and if the new tank i built would be safe.

there actually probably dying from ammonia build up on bowl change(not in your case this time but most others). since all the beneficial bacteria is on the surface of the previous bowl.
if you have a filter thats removable in the tank, you could move that to the next tank. It would bring bacteria and lessen the chance of the fish dying after the move.

i just added three 3 female bettas to my 15 and they all appear much better then they did in the little cups

a small tank like that and cold water doesn't really help a betta either, they need longer tanks not hgher (you know the breathing thing..lol) Goldfish have a HIGH ammonia output. i just feel for those bettas in cups. I found this also whch might be great for old and new betta owners.. lol this kinda weaned me off the bettacube things.. http://easybettacare.blogspot.com/

I have built many tanks with GE II and although it has the mildew additives, if allowed to cure for long enough, it has not posed any problems to any fish i have kept. GE I is far superior in bonding ability so i try to only use it when at all possible.

lol i had a heater that my husband says it goes into cardiac arrest with the constant fickering..lol
