My Betta's fins aren't as round as the one you showed. Along with that, from what I've seen, double tails have a split, while my Betta has what looks to be a chunk removed.
After research of my own and the answers I got on the thread, I'm positive that that gap in the tail is damage, because it's too wide for him to be a doubletail mix. There is also new growth at the base of the gap, which further proves it's fun damage. If it was a doubletail mix the gap wouldn't be filling itself in with new fin gtowth.
