Am getting my sister a lovley blue dragon for Christmas well that's the plan. The problem is I have reserved the fish and they can only hold it for a short time and I have a few tanks lieing round he could go in until Christmas but I don't have a spare filter at the time I no some people keep them with out filters but I'm not sure if its a good idea any input would help. All my current tanks are full of fish that would either eat him in one tastey little bite or I have a small cichlid grow out with wolfs and red terrors all under 2".

I keep my betta in a 3 gallon tank with a mini azoo power filter. He's happy as long as I don't move his plants around. I have a spare filter, would give it to you if I could.

He'll probably be ok without a filter for a little while, mine went without a filter for about 2 months. I just did a water change every week and he has done fine. Be careful about filters, my tank came with a internal power filter, a small one. It was too much current and my poor little crowntail got caught under it and died. The azoo mini filter works good, only 14 gallons per hour and Sapphire does fine with it, actually plays in the flow from it. Dr Foster and Smith has the azoo filter for about 8.00. I have the spare one now, just no way to send it to you.

Bettas don't need filters. Most betta breeders keep their males in glass containers and just change water with a turkey baster. Females can be kept together in a tank.

I never use filters in betta tanks, I just take a jug out and add a jug each day. Takes all of 5 mins.

Nice betta man cheers bro I got a few small filters but there in my grow out tank' ye I should only have him until Xmas then may just get a nice sized glass vase for now maybe stick a small plant in there for a bit of extra O2. Really beautiful fish just wish I had space for a community tank.

Also how long could a betta be ok for in a bag as where The shop is is near my work and from shop to home is about 2 hours will it be ok.

Depends on how much oxygen in the bag. Probably be ok in the bag, or even put in a vase or something. Don't they come with plastic cups? If they can stay in the cups on the shelf in the store, he'll be ok traveling in the cup in the car. I prefer big cichlids, but my office is only so big. I'd move Sapphire into a 5 gallon if I thought I could get by with it. He's happy in the 3, stays in the plants a lot. Just wanted a fish companion at work. Already looking at a bookshelf I don't need and thinking 30 gallon in here. Not a good idea... My co-workers might notice it a little more than my little tank. Bettas do have personality, kind of like the big fish I usually keep. He comes to the front when he sees me, mostly begging for food. I can't rescue any more bettas, if I had gotten into bettas before big cichlids, I'd probably have a dozen or more, just by rescuing them from Walmart.

Ye this store has a great collection of bettas and all have there own little gallon section, ill go grab him soon and post pics just no by the time Xmas comes around it will be hard to part with.
