I was given this betta by a coworker and I know it’s not the greatest photo, but can anyone tell me if this is a half moon like I think it is? Or if it is a different tail type? Eventually I’ll be looking to breed him but what to know for sure what I have. Thanks!
I can post a better picture after work when I get home

You'd have to get a photo of him flaring to be sure. Probably not a proper halfmoon...maybe a delta. Certainly not a dumbo (elephant ear).

Are these any better? He loves the hikari betta food.

A little late, but looks like an over halfmoon, just based on the ruffles in the tail. Halfmoon isn't exactly a strain that breeds true, you get OHMs, HMs, super deltas, and deltas from halfmoon spawns. It depends on the number of branches in the rays of the tail.

Each of the aforementioned varieties has a number typical of that variety, though I don't remember off the top of my head. A certain branch count is considered a "halfmoon" or "delta" or whatever because the tail spread is dependent on the amount of branching in the tail.

More branching = wider spread. Tails that spread 180° are considered halfmoons, less than 180 is super delta or delta, over 180 is OHM. Rosetails also fall under OHM, but iirc there's some other things that go into making a rosetail.
