I just set up my planted 5g betta tank! He is a black half-moon king betta that was in a petco cup for 3 to 4 mounths. He was expensive but I ended up getting him after the three months of no one buying him.

Is there any kind of fish that would go with the betta in a 5g? Or should I just stick with amano shrimp and snails?

I'm drawn toward chili rasboras, or ember tetras. Another fish I thought about could be celestial danios. (Just to be clear I only want one species of fish NOT all three)

The tank has a filter and heater, and is cycled just in chase you guys were wondering.

In a 5 it gets tough, and is usually up to the individual betta. Some may do fine with other fish, others may hunt them down. 5 gallons isn’t a lot of space to escape though. The best tankmates would be bottom dwellers which stay out of the bettas way (namely dwarf cories or some goby species).
Realistically, a solo betta is best with some shrimp as tankmates.

Ok. I'll probably just stick with amano shrimp then, and maybe some snails.

I may look into the possibility of a goby.

I had blue dream shrimp in a 5 gallon with a betta, and all but 1 disappeared.
Same story with neocaridina and my betta. Amanos being much larger should do well.
