I have had some recent trouble with water conditions in my tank, and I had been advised to put a little aquarium salt into the water. The box said to put one Tbsp for every 5 gallons, and i have a 20 gallon tank.

This tank holds guppies, platys, 2 rubber lipped catfish (those plecos that only get 4 inches or whatever), and one BETTA.

Is this now what is considered "brackish" water? Will this condition be ok for my Betta, or should he be placed elsewhere?

Not brakish. You need sea salt for that. Should be fine.:)

Is that a female betta your keeping in it?

If it's a male betta it will have to go and be isolated. Odds are it will end up killing
everything in your tank.

Bettas are generally pretty peaceful, but they'll go after Guppies and Platies because they look like bettas. Keep a watchful eye.

Aquarium Salt is different than Marine Salt used in mixing marine and brackish and you add it in a much lower concentration. And you can if you like cut the recommended dosage down if you like.

The only problem you'll have with Aquarium Salt is if you're keeping a planted tank. Some plants don't like the salt at all.

Well all that was pretty confusing. the betta has not shown any problems with the community fish for the last few months. The salt is in the tank, and nothing has happend bad yet.

I've never had problems with 1 Tbs./5 gal with any of my fish.
