I was curious as to whether or not a single male betta can be kept in a community tank with fish like corydoras, tetras, and live bearers such as mollies, platies, and guppies. I was also wondering if I can keep killifish or glass catfish in a community tank? I've kept rams and apistos, as well as female bettas with community fish before with no issues.

Yes its possible to keep a male betta in a community tank, but it depends on the specie of tetra you have. Some tetra are notorious fin nipper's, and idk about killies or the glassfish.

I was planning on adding cardinal, glow light, red head, and black neon tetras, which are all small so I'm assuming they should be fine. Now, if I had female bettas in the community tank, would the make betta pay any attention to them or would the other fish distract him? I've had issues in the past with having a male even in a colony of just females.

The male will still harass the females, if you have plants that will give the females refuge it might work. As for the tetra's the male should be fine.:)

Imo, bettas are best on their own......

Betta+Corydoras-Yes, as corydoras are usually drab and inhabit a different water layer than bettas.
Betta+tetras-Maybe, as bettas might attack colorful tetras, or small groups of tetras might nip the fins. I'd stick with the red heads or black neon tetras, and keep those in schools of at least 8 (6 IMHO is not enough for any schooling fish to feel comfortable).
Betta+guppy-maybe bordering on no. Female guppies that are drab won't pose a problem, but male bettas might go after very colorful male guppies and injure the guppies.
Betta+any other livebearer-see Betta+guppy.
Betta+ghost cats-Uhhhhhhhhhhhh, maybe? The betta would be fine, but I'm not certain how it would react to the ghost cats; probably okay, as the ghost cats are pretty much ghosts anyways.
Betta+killis-no idea.

How big will your tank be?

Bettas not only can attack other fish, they can be the victim due to their long fins. There's no reason to try it, imo.
Also, the 6 in a group is just a minimum number. More is obviously better.
