Better bulkhead?

I am making a diy filter for my pond this year and for the returns, I am a bit confused about what kind of bulkhead to use. I order everything off of the same website and they offer two types. This is a picture of a regular bulkhead :

And here is a picture of a "pond" bulkhead. It is a lot more money. Just wondering if it is worth it and it anyone can tell me why I should use it.

Either one will work on thin materials but the threaded portion onto which the nut is threaded is very short on the pond type. I have one of the pond type on my rubbermaid pond filter and it works fine, it's what was available locally at the time I needed it. Only benefit I saw is you can tighten the pond type by hand much better than the standard ones, which seems like it would be a nice feature when you are using it on a pond liner rather than a rigid material.
