I had to do a water change in the tank today as I now have a sick bala shark too. Anyhoo I decided to net the Eartheater and see if I could get some pictures of his eye in the hope that someone could give me a better idea of the problem so I can treat him.

He still isn't in quarantine, I'm still waiting for a free tank. Hopefully it won't be much longer.

Here are the pics, it looks pretty bad as you can see. Could this be the result of an injury by any chance? I witnessed him going at it with my Jack Dempsey a bit today, they were locking mouths and everything, I'm wondering if he might have been bit?

Sorry for the big pics, I just want you all to be able to see them.

If he got bit in the eye it would probably be gone. He could have rammed it on a piece of decoration though.
But judging from your other thread it appears to be getting bigger...

Then all I can say is that it's an infection of the eye. You could try soaking food in medication but I'm not sure if it will help. I've never seen this before...

A gram positive and gram negative antibacterial. Not something you get at your everyday fish store. You could check, some have this kind of stuff.

If this was an injury, no antibiotics are needed. Both injury and poor water quality being the main causes, are easily corrected with frequent tank maintenance or clean water quality to be more precise (still check your water parameters). Place him in a 10-15g tank and do daily water changes until he recovers completely.

Thanks Lupin, I am getting a small tank set up today. I will try just giving him lots of clean water. He is looking worse every day. He is now rather listless and doesn't swim around at all like he used to.

If the clean water doesn't help I'll try some sort of medicine.

Sounds like a plan.
Tetracycline would work too.
