Well the other day I got 24 minnows to put in my 20G to hold them till me cichlids were ready for them. But as I put them in the 20G I look them all over very good. And they just look horribe. Bodies caved in, skinny, barely swimming. just poor looking fish. And i know that in the wild they are much better looking then that. Anyway, I think i would like to start a 600G pond and breed minnows in there. I live in NJ so i know they will be fine. But and anyone tell me how i could be successful in breeding them in a pond???

Fathead minnows/tuffies/rosy reds don't need any special attention. Try to get some healthy starting stock, add some flower pots, lengths of 2" or larger plastic pipe (use solid core, foamcore will float), etc. for them to use as egg deposition sites, feed them, and you should have little minnows out the ears before long. Once the pond is well-established feeding becomes less necessary; the minnows will eat all the bugs and algae that grow there. Live plants are a good idea too.
