full spectrum daylight or plant grow? there is already a 4200 K full spectrum T8 (i think)

well i think bulbs designed for plants would work best, for fresh or salt, as plants require a different spectrum then corals for say. Do a google search and see, i have never kept saltwater plants before so i may be wrong. good luck

Should be safe with anything around 10K for growing algae.
I keep mine under PC in one tank which it does fine and does not get sexual, and I have one under MH which consistantly gets pruned by my mithrax crabs.

The only thing you really want is something as close to daylight when it comes down to it. So the higher the kelvin reading, the better the lighting for algae.
You cannot think of it in the terms of plants though, as there are more contributing factors to algae growth than lighting alone as comparison to FW plants.
Keep that in mind.

Well try it out. I don't think it would hurt anything.
If algae doesn't grow from it, then you will know immediately and switch back to lighting which is a bit more proper.

I have a few different kinds of algae in my tank, chaeto, caluerpa and they grow fairly quickly under 14k.

thanks to all for your help... its going to be another month or so before this tank will be running and probably another 3 months to finish it:nilly: ill post pics when it is up :D

again thanks
