I MIGHT* not be the first to think of this...

but wouldn't it be much healthier for our aros if we made a cover out of like, a soft mesh / plastic screen that's flexible to act as a net rather than a solid "wall" to absorb arowana impact when it jumps (rather than crashing into a solid object like a hood or glass canopy), fitted with a wooden frame that you build yourself?

then just use one of those T5 mounting lights and your good..
what do you guys think?

and whoever uses this could also use it to disprove / comfirm the impact/DE theory

Let me share my exprience working in a arowana breeding farm. Big aro can easily jump and make a hole on those netting if it wanted to. The best is still the glass cover. Usually water level are high in our tank thus even if the fish jump, the impact is not that great.

Better the fish to bruise itself abit and learn the lesson than the owner learn the lesson the hard way having a dead fish outside the tank.

agreed ive seen them power through netting in the past,a solid cover is the only way to be sure they don't end up on the floor.

even if they don't make it through the net, every time they jump theyll splash water everywhere.

Yep what they said^^^

Koji - Would you say it is better to have the water level closer to the top of the tank then as long as it is sealed good? Most people I have heard from say keep it about 4" from the top but Ive always thought of it the same way as you do.

agreed

im using light difussers, then i weight it down with glass. But i think they will bust the net like koji said. My old Silver RIP, jumped and broke a garbage bag when i was transporting it.

I always love water level as high as I can get. I always find that aro feel and behave more stable with high water level near the cover. And aro will learn from their mistake. If they injuired themselves the first time from jumping hitting the top, it will less likely repeat the same mistake. That I notice from my own aros at home.
