There are many colorful fish out there in the hobby. I know that color isn't the only thing that attracts an aquarist to keep a particular fish. Goodness knows, I've got plenty of "grey" fish (as my wife frequently points out) that are definitely worth keeping. But one species of cichlid from the southern Yucatan peninsula in Mexico and Belize stands out as one of the most colorful of freshwater fish . It is Paratheraps synspilum, or "red headed" cichlid for those that like a common name. I've presently have six of them (3 pair I think), the males at around 8-10" and the females 6-7". Here are a couple of pics of them.
