Hi All,

we are tempted by a BGK and think they are wonderful fish, they would be well suited in our 6ft x 2ft x 2ft 6. unfortunately we had 2 glass knife fish and the Aba Aba killed them and we dont know why we only know it was for food.

Does anybody have experiences with BGK being hunted by other fish.

My personal opinion is that it was the way they swam I say this because when the Aba Aba comes out at night if the glass knife moved he woulod chase them but if they were still he'd swim right by them.

So does the BGK swim like the GKF or are the patterns different I ask because our lfs has one but its always hiding so I never seen one swim.

In most cases...nothing is safe with an Aba Aba in the tank. I certainly wouldn't try a Black Ghost with one if I were you.

Well then we must be very lucky as our Aba Aba as its in with the following,

A Fire Eel, 2 x Pangasius Sharks, 2 x Shark Cat Fish, A Dragon Goby, 3 x Clown Loaches, 9" Jardini Aro, Moon Light Gourami, Siamese Flyin Fox, An Upside Sucker, 2 x Unknown Suckers, A 14" Sailfin Plec, A Mbu Puffer & a Pictus Catfish

So, if your aba is roughly the same size as the largest fish on the list, it's still a juvenile. When it reaches sexual maturity it'll Jeckyl & Hyde on you. The 2 times I raised abas, they became killing machines just into the sub-adult (earliest breeding size) ~22" size.
I don't know if they calm down later on. I sold both (different decades) as they reached roughly 30" each time I transferred back to sea duty. I never had the time to grow them out completely to their 65"+ adult size.

Youll see someday you aba aba wont be so nice... we warned you. but until then GOOD JOB keepin him tame.. the jardini will wreak u some havoc in about 4 inches!

From what I understand, they're swimming chainsawes. Even the Shedd aquarium in Chicago dedicates a tank to 1 aba aba.

Wow so its just as well we have a second tank planned for them which is much larger and seperate for them all to be happy. As next year the Aba Aba will be with the Pangasius in a new 7ft x 6ft x 3ft home. hopefully to se the Aba Aba reach the 65"+ mark

That will be awesome!
