i got my first BGK last night and i was wondering how long does it usually take for them to feel comfortable and to start coming out during the day, i know this is only the first full day ive had him so, he just hides behind some driftwood so far, is there anything i can do to make him come out more, any advice and opinions greatly appreciated

my BGK was instantly checking everything out and out all the time until I put a net in the tank to scoop up some uneaten food and now he is a slight recluse :s

^ same here. as soon as he hit the water of my tank, he was all over the place. my royal and clown are much more reserved. They do come out but not like the bgk. my bgk is a real roamer. give your's time. even within the same species, different fish have different attitudes.

Mine would hide all the time, only came out when it was dark. But feeding them can encourage them to come out. Mine would come out of its hiding spot with the lights on for food only, and then dart back into hiding. They are hiding fish, they dont really swim around all day.

mine, like many others just started exploring at once.... and ate from my hand on the 1st try... just give time...

It varies from Knife to Knife. I had a few BGKs. One was very shy and never came out behind the filter intake while the one I currently have is out a lot more.
