For my future referance what ca/sa Cichlids can be housed with black ghost knives, if proper tank sizes and water parameters are met.

Ask long as they aren't too belligerent like Dovii and Jags, it should be fine. There are exceptions, but it really boils down to individual fish. There are a lot of people who keeps BGKs with Oscars, but I've also heard of Oscars beating up on their Knives and vice versa.

I've got 6 Bolivian Rams in with my baby BGK. Haven't had any problems at all. The Bolivians are easier to keep than the German Rams, (their not as delicate), and are one of the less agressive cichlids. Obviously they won't be able to stay with the BGK long term as they only get to approx 3", (I,m moving my BGK into a larger tank when he hits 6" or so) don't want them being eaten. As far as the larger cichlids go, Firemouths and Sevrums are fairly peaceful and very attractive. Firemouth's get to approx 6" and Sevrums approx 12" so a large tank is needed, ideally 100G +.

It's all based on size and temperament. You could definitely keep them with angels, rams, and discus, but housing with oscars and other large aggressive cichlids is dependent on the fish themselves.

i have to agree to disagree with part of your statement... all the firemouths i have seen or owned have been a-holes that are nomadically agressive and often kill to defend a random spot that changes daily... that being said i have a firemouth with 2 bgk@10", a ck@10", a severum, jardinis aro, stingrays, polys, balas and african cichlids...have had them with angels, oscars, eels, syno cat...ect.... they are nice looking but they are a more agressive cichlid and will go after knives that are bigger then they are...

I've always found firemouths to be rather peaceful, and most of the belligerence is just their display and do real damage. I'd put them there along with festivums as peaceful cichlids, but a step above severums and other more peaceful types

yes 70% is just "talk", but they do damage and kill 30%...at least from my exp....they have lived an were dominent in an african tank with kenyi, bumble bees and a few other very agro sp....i have had them kill angels, almost kill africans, and beat up several other more agro fish...

I have my BGK in with Angels , a female JD and a breeding pair of Sevs , never had a issue with them . The BGK doesn't bother or threaten anything in the tank - accept for Severum eggs - I think he likes them like a treat . The BGK is the only fish the Sevs let within 2 feet of the eggs . I have the BGK almost 3 years now with the Angels , 2 with the Sevs and 1 with JD .
