I am setting up a community type tank in my 90g. It has three parrot fish, clown loaches, ropefish, and some random tetras. Would a BGK get along alright and be able to get food easily enough? THe parrots are not aggressive and even if they were their mouths are too deformed to do damage. I won't lie I was not orignally considering getting one, but I was at petsmart today and they had some really nice 4-5 inchers in. I kind of hate buying fish there but they were nice and I have not been seeing that size lately. Also is $22 a fair price. Thanks

A BGK of that size would get all the food it wanted, including tetras if they are small enough. My 8" BGK lives with two rope fish and they get along just fine. You will need to give the BGK a cave that is separate from wherever your rope fish hides. If the BGK likes the rope fish's home better, he will take it over. For that size, I would consider $22 to be an average price. My only concern is the clown loaches - how many do you have?

Why are clown loaches a concern? there will be a min of three. There may possibly as many as five. I also havea pair of synodontis multi cats that will also be in the tank.

$22 is on the high side if you ask me. I payed $10 for mine at 6 inches.

I see the tetras disappearing, but other than that everyone should get along fine as long as you have a few decent hiding spots for the BGK. YOou need to make sure he eats.. Its not likely he will get much if you just feed the tank. You need to present the food directly to him.

Because clown loaches get humongous and live at the bottom of the tank, and so does a BGK, and now so will the cats. There's only so much room on the ground floor, and none of those fish will set up a room in the attic. A 90 gallon has the same amount of floor space as a 75 and in reality not much more than a 55. I think there could be territorial issues as they all grow.

dmed thanks for the info. Clown loaches do get huge but it takes a significant amount of time for them to really beef up.

I agree. But when answering, I always assume the OP means "for life" unless he or she says differently. It would be ok for a while, but I didn't think you might be planning to set up a second tank for a fish that you weren't sure you wanted.

I think it would be fine. Depending on the tetras, they might disappear after awhile.

As long as you provide enough hiding spots for everyone. Only time my knife gets rowdy is when someone noses around his spot.
