I have seen this question asked a couple times but haven't seen any definitive answers...

What would a BGK biotope look like and what species would go in it?

Pictures would be cool too.

The reason for the non-definitive answer is because there are so many choices. BGK comes from South American with an abundant amount of other fish species coming from the same area of the Amazon. You have an abundant choices of Tetras, Catfish, Cichlids, Plecos, etc.

Here's a link I found for you...

If we were to take a snapshot of a BGK in his natural habitat in a space of say 8 feet by 8 feet, what would it look like? Where do they spend their time in the water level? I assume they mostly hide during the day and hunt at night? What species would they be rubbing elbows with regularly?

That was awesome! What is the pike Cichlid around the 30 second mark?

So do they mainly stay down in the dark like that? Lots of murky water, leaf litter, and branches?

I watched that whole documentary.
I believe I remember seeing a Niger Catfish, Festivums, Severums, obviously that pike cichlid in the video, I think also discus.
I could be wrong though.
Might be thinking of a completely different video haha.

Not sure what Pike that is, but I know most Pikes can be pretty aggressive. Unless you have a large tank, I wouldn't trust it.

it would def be blackwater
floating plants maybe festivum and severums def be there with discus.
as was shown it all depends on you space, most people dont have the space for a 25 inch niger catfish. also hoplos. my public aquarium has a guyana biotope with a ghost knife, severums, catfish, some sort of hatchet fish at the top in the floating plants, lots of sword and grass plants and very dark water. it is a very cool tank would be sweet to see someone attempt it.
