i have a 70 gallon tank that is 48'x18'18, ive heard alot about these black ghost knife fish, i kinda want to buy one but im not sure, lets hear some experiences people have had with them, pictures as well

they are a cool fish that can get along with pretty much anything that wont fit in their mouth. when they come out and swim around, they are an absolute blast to watch. they grow big, but they grow super slow.

as for pics, look in the picture thread

They're also fairly hardy, will eat readily - you can even train them to eat from your hand. Ever seen one peacefully move around a tank? They're extremely graceful and fascinating to watch.

Knifefish are also one of the few fishes that have "reverse" - they can back up.

many thanks, lol, the more i read up on them the more i dig them, i absolutely LOVE the shape and coloration of their bodies, how big is big? and how slow is slow?

ive only had a fish eat from my hand a handful of times, but it was pretty cool, imo, maybe im wierd for saying that but oh well,

supposed to go about 20-24 in captivity.

slow......i have heard of people having them over 4 years and not being 18 inches

Bgk are one of the coolest fish that I have kept, they swim front, back and sideways. Can be trained it eat from the hand. Peaceful with big fishes; they are nocturnal so provide some hiding places.

In growth, my former bgk who past away was around 12 inches. he was 3 inches when I got him, he grew to 12 inches in a year.

Yeah I had one at 3 inches and in 5 months he grew to 8 inches. They can grow fast but they slow down I guess. Sizes of 20-24 inches isnt likely. Think more like 14/15/16 inches.

They are shy at 1st and reclusive. But will come out more when settled in, theyre nocturnal so dont expect to see it swimming all over the place all day. Mine hid 99% of the time and would come out only to eat when there was liight, other than that the lights had to be out for it to wonder around in the tank.

Theyre not really mean, but they are tough when they need to be. They mostly want a log or hole to hide in and be fed, but if fish try to steal their food or territory they will bite. Also, its not adviced to put them with fish that will harrass them constantly.

I've had one for 3 months now and it looks like it grew maybe an inch. But they are very cool fish. Mine comes out of hiding once the food hits the water. Goes crazy for shrimp. I think most will say that the average is 18"-20" but it'll take awhile to hit that size.

i think im convinced now, all ive heard is good things, so ill have to ask at the lfs, anyone know how much they cost, and any other experiences would be great
