I had my BGK in a tank that had a 8" Jack Dempsey Cichlid in it. The jack was seperated from him and other fish with divider. Next morning I found a headless pleco on his size of the tank and my 3" BGK swiming beside him and using my jacks house as its own. I freaked out and told my nephew to go get my net, which I had left in the basement (which he couldnt find). I stood by waiting to scare Jacky Boy away if he went after my BGK, and at one point it looked like he was moving in, but my BGK swam right up in his face, and Jacky ran. Then Jack stayed away from him and went back to eyeing fish through the divider.

And has anyone actually had one of their BGK's killed or repeatedly attacked by another fish (besides another BGK).

He's now in a 55 Growout tank with 4 tinfoil barbs (4"),Pictus cat(3"), 1 female jack(3"), and a firemouth(1.5"), and nobody even goes near it even though it has the habit of sticking his little white tipped tail out the end of the log and wiggling it, this sometimes gets the attention of the barbs but when they get close they freak out and scatter.

My Question: I know that the BGK electricity is very faint and used for finding food not defense, but do you think this could have something to do with why my otherwise fearsome Jack didnt kill it? Or do you think the BGK was just to weird looking for Jacky to care about?

I don't know, but thats really interesting. I've noticed that Jack's are usually really skittish about new experiences and things like that- sudden noises, strange music, colored lights, etc... So the wierdness factor could play a role. They could have had some sort of extraperceptual(to us) battle or something though as well, BGK's are strange enough I could believe it if you said they might have mind control. If your jack really didn't harm the BGK at all or seemed scared of it, I think it would be interesting to put them together and watch (or at least videotape if you don't have time) for scientific reasons.

At the store I used to work at we had a BGK for a long time. It was pretty sad because it didn't have good hiding spots int the store tank except for a little cave made by a rock. It was eventually killed when 3 Knight's Goby were added to the tank- they decided they wanted the rock i guess. It was about 5 in and they were a stocky 2", but there were three of them

have you seen it being aggressive besides the fish it killed?

Some Knives can defend themselves, but if the JD really wanted to kill the BGK, it would've been a matter of time.

They havent been together for awhile now (didnt want to risk it), I actually had success pairing my jack with a small 3" female (he's 8+") in its own tank (yey me!). The BGK is awesomely strange in my tank, he happily will allow my bichir in his cave, but if my peacock eel come near the entrance he is out right away getting up in his face, not actually attacking just up in his face bobbing and weaving. The Bichir and my BGK even seem to feed together and flee together when scared of me, and there is tons of other available real estate for both of them they just stick together.
