Hi all,

My jardini has injured my BGK fish's tail (thinking the white part as a worm). It is now intense red and with some skin dangling off the wound.

I have of course now isolated the fish. What else should I do him to heal up ASAP? I understand BGK prefers soft water so would adding aquarium salt be counter-productive?

Thanks for your help in advance,
Tim

Good water quality and melafix will help it regrow back in no time. I had a juvie convict do that to the tail of my BGK before.

I would only do half doses, as they are sensitive scaleless fish and it would likely grow back with out the aid of the melafix.

If you see any white fungal growth on the wound, I would do a half dose of pimafix as well.. It will help treat and prevent any fungal infections.

A small dose of aquarium salt will help with osmosis and help ward off any secondary infections.. the only other thing it would be useful for would be a heavy dose (stressful) to treat fungal infections or parasites, but the mela, pima, and good water quality can do all of that.

salt malafix and a new tank mate jardinis can be very aggressive and this will happen agian but the knife will most likely be killed they cant defend them selfs very we'll and a jardini isn't a push over

I recommend melafix as well some salt is ok too for knifes just not a whole bunch of it.
but the tank mates aren't a fair match. Ghost are fairly tough for knifes but against a jar?...and i realized I'm just repeating what everyone else is saying so I'm gonna hush.. lol
