iv been researching different tank mates for my bichir tank when i upgrade it (eventually a 75 and a 55 first more than likely) and iv pretty much decided on a bgk. any advice on them? i know some about them but just assume i know nothing. what do yall recommend in the areas of feeding, tank set up, ect. any good advice will be greatly appreciated so thanks in advance particularly since im pretty dead set on this now and i want to be informed so as not to make a mistake.

the tank mates so far are 2 senegals and a delhezi. i might add an albino senny but im not sure. i dont want to crowd the tank and basically the thought of the albino at this point is just to add another active fish to liven up the tanks appearance a bit.

BGK are scaless fishes (but i think they have very small scales). They are quite sensitive to medications. BGK are nocturonal creatures which rely on thier weak electircal signals to detect food and thier surroundings.
They like to hide, can be put with peaceful fishes yet not too fit on its mouth. You can even train it to be handfed.

By the way, kind of bichir are we talking about here.

@yohan, from what I have observed, the juveniles are the ones who are quite fragile (about 3 - 4 inches). The bigger ones are not that quite fragile.

Requirements are:

1. fully cycled tank - especially when small they need good conditions.
2. good food - frozen blood worms are a favorite.
3. small BGK will hide and not eat if they do not feel secure - so the first few weeks. You may have to 'target' feed to be sure that it is eating.
4. setup a regular feeding time each day and you will start to see it waiting for you :)
5. they will try to get away from anyone who is aggressive - make sure there are a variety of hiding places.

That is about it - good water, good food, good tank mates...

good tank mates, so should that include 2 senegal bichirs and a delhezi bichir? thats what i have right now. i might get an albino senegal but idk. and what about butterfly fish, are they considered ok?

very very fragile. could die easily.

I don't think they are that fragile. As long as you do regular maintenance. I recommend a higher temp for parasite prevention.

i always tey to keep that tank at 82 minimum to help keep away ich. i thought i would bump it up to 84 though.
