BGK in a 55 Gallon

Can a BGK live in a 55 gallon with a needlenose gar and if so for how long. The gar is ~5 inches and so will the BGK

because BGK are said to be able yo reach over 20"

ok so if the BGK is out are there any other knifefish that can live in a 55 gallon aquarium

BGK dont usually get over 10" in aquariums so i personally wouldnt worry about that. And the needle nose gar is a very slow grower and maxes out at 12" if i remember correctly.
I have them both (with many others) in a 50g tank and everything is ok.

bro I dont know what youre talking about I have had several that reached well over 12" and I know someone who has one that is over 16"


but aside from that you could try spotted bushfish,leaffish,JD,jewel cichlid, convict cichlid, pike kilis, their are lots of things you can do, for a while atleast.

im sorry, i did a little research on them when i got mine and i read that it doesnt get over the 12" in tanks. just proves you cant count on information on the internet

but in that case i look forward for mine to grow big
have had mine for 2 months and it a reeeealy slow grower, how long did it take for yours to grow?

well i got it at around 2-3" at petco i think


and i had it for about 14 months i think not quite sure but i got rid of it because i only had a 55 at the time

so whould 2x needlefish and a pair of convicts work out??
or would a Jack Dempsey be better

I would do just a group of needlenose they like to be in groups of at least 3 or more.

If you want a Knife, go with an African Brown Knife (Xenomystus Nigri). They don't get over 12" and usually are around 8" They're also one of the most peaceful Knife Fish that you can get.
