I have tried my hand @ BGK with no luck. They seem to last a total of 15 days and then die. The last 2 days or so when they swim they usually go in circles and when they stop they're on their side. I never saw them eat; and I fed right before I turned down the lights for the night. Their tank mates @ the time were two 4" senegal bichirs which never picked on the BGK. The knife was the same size as the bichirs. Any ideas on what went wrong?

tank size? water parameters? did u acclimate? do they have a place to hide during the day? more information needed....

I started them out in a 20 gal(they were only 3" each.) I didn't get them at the same time either. When one died, I purchased the second to replace it. When that one croaked, I didn't get another as they are too expensive to have die in 15 days. I acclimated the fish to the tank for a minimum of 15-20 minutes. Water checked out. No ammonia and at the most very little nitrites and nitrates. I put in very little salt (quite a bit less than the recommended 1 TBS per 5 gallons; roughly 1 TBS per 20 gals.)
There were only two other tank mates: two senegal bichirs of about 2" each. There were plenty of hiding places for all the fish. The two bichirs made it fine (I still own them and they're pushing 8" each now.) I never saw it eat (I tried frozen and live BW.)
Any ideas on anything i may have done wrong (or not done at all?)

i got mine at about 3-4inches and have fed him live black worms ever since and hes prob close to 6" now(i dont see him enough to tell) i see him eatin' shrimp pellets too every once and a while. mabye try to buy a bigger one around 6" and make sure its eating before you buy it. and feed live blackworms. mine likes to hide in a cave or the back of my driftwood with the fire eel hope this helps also mabye try turning the lights off then feeding(turn the lights off w8 a couple min then feed)
