:help2:Ok just a little bit of back ground. My BGK has recently moved from a 55g to a 180g December just gone. The 180g was a new set-up but the filters used on the tank had already been cycled, and all water tests to date since moving my fish in have been AMM 0, Nitrite 0, Nitrate < 10. WC between 30 - 40% weekly.
A couple of days ago my BGK stopped eating he usually is a big pig and is the first one out to feed when I go to the tank. His routine is that he comes to the surface to be hand fed his beef heart or shrimp etc and then see what he can scavenge from the bottom of the tank. Now he comes to the top of the tank takes to food from my hand then spits it out and returns to his favourite resting place. This started about 4 days ago.
I introduced some new fish to the tank yesterday but I don't think this has anything to do with it as he had stopped eating before-hand. Also FYI the fish I introduced had been in a separate tank for the last 2 months in quarantine before introducing them to the tank.

Hope someone has some ideas on what could be going on, as I have had this boy for about 7 years and don't want to lose him.

Thanks in advance

Hmmm.

I had a BGK that did something like this. DIdnt know why though. I figured he must have been bored with the food I offered. Maybe you can try some different food.

I also stopped feeding for a day or 2 sometimes so the BGK could work up an appetite.

He could also have an internal parasite. Did you feed him anything live?

Approx. how many days since he hasnt eaten? He could be stressed from the move.

What fish did you introduce? Have you looked it over to see if there is anything visibly wrong with it? How big is it?

Pyramid_Party.
He has not eaten for 4 to 5 day now just tried again with his favorite food and he came to top to my hand nosed the food and went back to his spot. I do not feed live food. I don't think it was from the move as he was eating well after the move that is the problem I can't put my finger on any trigger for the lack interest in food.

I introduced Congo tretra's and Boesmani Rainbows (Australian Natives) both very placid fish. He is about 14" long.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated as I said I have no idea what could be wrong. None of the other long term residents that he was housed with have any problems either.

Thanks

Maybe bored of the food. Try something new maybe.

He is offered Beef heart, Shimp by hand not including Flake, pellets and blood worm which he usually scavenges from the substrate after eating from my hand. I don't want to appear like I don't want answers but what new can I try. This is so frustrating.

Any other suggestions please.

You can try some garlic exract to entice the fish to eat. Or else just give it more time. Sometimes fish dont eat like this for unknown reasons. I had a GT do the same too.

It seems your BGK trys for the food atleast. It could just be nervous for some reason. I really dont know. Dont worry, your fish can go awhile with no food.

Have you noticed any difference in behavior or just anything different in the tank overall? Anything affecting the BGK somehow?

Try some of that garlic extract though and see how it goes.

Try worms. Everybody likes nightcrawlers! Chop them up to make them tempting and easy to eat. Work in the normal supplement when they start eating again.

How old is the food? If he spits it out, it might be stale. 4 days for a 14" isn't something to be too concerned about. Maybe he's scavenging after lights out. Check on him at night to see if this is the case. I also agree with Pyramid_Party on the garlic extract idea.

Excuse my ignorance but what are nightcrawlers. I live in Australia I have never ever heard of a nightcrawler.

I make up the beef heart mix myself and it has garlic in it. This latest batch is only 2 weeks old and I freeze it in serving size bags. The only difference in his behaviour is that he is not out and about as much as usual and also he usually allows my largest Clown loach to rest with him in his favourite spot but I have noticed over the last couple of days that he keeps kicking the Clown loach out and not tolerating anyone to be near him.

Just tried again this morning to feed him same result. Also checked Water Parameters still same as usual. I am thinking of raising the temp to see if that stimulates an appetite. What do you think or should I just leave well enough alone and wait and see.

Thanks for all the help will keep you all posted.
