How many years does it take for a BGK to grow in it's max size (18-20 inch). I have a 5-6 incher BGK right now.

Mine is 18" and has been alive for 11-12 years.. I inherited it about 2 years ago.

I believe they are slow growers like due to stress and lack of proper nutrition.. They are hard to feed well, and they stress out from other fish in the tank.

If you kept one alone in a 55g, and fed it 2-3 cubes of bloodworms every day, it would grow alot faster.

Keep it in a community tank with competition and stress, it will grow alot slower..

How small did the previous owner got his BGK, and how many years did it got to reach its max size? Can you provide pics of the BGK?

I'd be interested to learn how fast or slow BGK's grow, as well. I picked up a little guy (4.5") about two months ago. Right now he's in a 55 with a few scalare angels, but once I'm settled into my new home, I plan to put him in a 55 of his own for a while (until such time that he needs larger accomodations).
I've given him quite a few plants and rocks for cover, along with some PVC to hang out in, but he really doesn't hide all that much.

How much growth should I expect within the first year or so?
