I was looking at fish on www.liveaquaria.com, and my fiance saw that black Ghost Knifefish.

Well, needless to say, that is now on his "Want" list. But I want to make sure it's not going to be too much.

The tank requirement says 50 g. Is this correct?
I know that they reach about 1'6" does it get any bigger than this?
What is the best kind of food (nutritionally) to feed it?
How fast does it grow?
Best sort of substrate?

Thanks again for all your help!!

Eventually you will require a 50 gal tank for this fish, but they can be kept in smaller tanks to grow them out. They have a relatively slow growth rate compared with cichlids. I don't think they are really too picky as to substrate. I feed mine bloodworms, krill, and brine shrimp.

The tank requirement says 50 g. Is this correct? -->75g coz they grow to 18-20 inches
I know that they reach about 1'6" does it get any bigger than this?--> 18 inch 20 in wild
What is the best kind of food (nutritionally) to feed it? -->Mostly they like worms like tubifex worms earthworms etc., but you can also feed him/her sinking pellets and live feeder guppies.
How fast does it grow? --> very slow. I bought mine when he was 3.5- 4 inch last sept 2006, now he's already 7-7.5 inch (maybe 8 in think)
Best sort of substrate? river sand.
Thanks again for all your help!!

Hope this helps my friend, good luck!

75 gallon tank IMO... bascially something that is at least 18 inches front to back

18 inches seems like the max max... and I think I have only seen one picture that was even close to that. 12-15 is probably a better estimate IMO

worms... black worms, blood worms, worms worms worms lol... they also seem to like brine shrimp at the lab

very very slow growth it could be in a 50 for a long ass time

sand

Mine is almost eight inches and eats brine shrimp, blood worms and amazingly large chunks of fish, shrimp and beefheart.

yeh dw about it...the largest ive ever seen is 20 inches. and they dont really move much. just included hiding places. when there is nowhere to hide they just play dead. extremely slow growth rate as well

My fiance's going to be excited that it's not too horribly complicated! ^_^

This is probably a dumb question, but like reptiles, you shouldn't mix species right?

I wasn't planning on it anyways, but I figured I'd cover all my bases!!

Thanks for all your help guys!! ^_^
