Hi guys,
I have an established community tank (about 12 months in) which I have recently added a Black Ghost Knife fish to. The tank is about 450L/120G, so is plenty big.

Now I understand this fish has special requirements for diet, swimming room and tank-mates, and I feel I've got this tank set up quite well from most angles, I just need some advice on the tank mates he has, namely the 2 rainbow sharks I have. The fish I have should be in my profile, but here's the basic list:
2 x Angels 4" but full size and round etc
1 x Black Ghost Knife Fish 6/7"
6 x Clown Loach 4-6"
2 x Kuhli Loach 2"
2 x Rainbow Shark 5"
2 x Dwarf Gouramis
1 x Swordtail
5 x Guppies
3 x Bristlenoses
& Some danios, rummynoses and neons left from 3 large schools

The tank's hierarchy is fairly well established as you can imagine as most of the fish have been in there the full 1 year, bar my 2 dwarf gouramis and 2 rainbow sharks.
The Rainbow sharks (about 4" long) are now the most hyperactive and "aggressive" of the fish in the tank you might say, but I never really see them bullying any of the fish per se, they more just do the odd acceleration and briefly chase a smaller fish as if to let them know who's boss. However the angel's who are at full size (about 4" too, but bigger shape than rainbows) are both definitely higher in rank, as they chase the rainbows from time to time to really lay down the law, sometimes clear across the tank, so at least the two rainbow's aren't really the bosses of the tank.

On to my question:
Since I've added an older BGK (that's about 6"/7"), he's been mostly hiding himself during waking hours when I'm up in a 2' tall fake tree stump thing, which is fine as this is supposed to be their normal behaviour. What I want to know is if these rainbows will be a threat to the knife or if he's big enough to assert himself in the pecking order when he does come out at night? Can this community work with the rainbows or will they just make his life miserable?

Rainbow Sharks can be pretty aggressive. A BGK should be able to hold it's own, but Sharks are also territorial and you will more likely have to move the other Shark if they start fighting each other. The BGK should be okay as long as it has multiple hiding spots and you aren't afraid to see some nips and scars.

just had to seperate my rainbows.. as one of them was beating on the other constantly.. as far as them with the BGK's i have 4 in my tank.. ranging from 4.5-7" the rainbows never messed with them..

Looks fine to me. As long as there are enough hiding spots, it probably wont get bullied and if it happens he'll be able to hold his own like pony said.
