Anyone know of someone selling something like this? I could find some acrylic tube from I think McMaster Carr , but my diy skills aren't that great and I'd like it to look nice.

never worked for mine. may have if not other hiding places but they are nocturnal, they do not like the lite (what thats a beer) light, so prefer they had what they needed to be happy. (low stress).

They sell the tubes on line, or try Petsmart, Foster and Smith . I have only seen very small BGK's actually use them.

lees is the manufacturer of the "ghost house". If you have an old siphon tube, that would do the trick as well, just take off the hose adapter and you are all set.

Ok thanks everybody, I may just use an old siphon tube and see if he uses it at all. He's only about 7" atm and spends his time in an old 1" and a half pvc pipe so I thought it would be something to try.

What are your opinions on keeping a BGK with an Oscar and EBJD? The Oscar is still juvenile and just getting past 4" and the EBJD is a year and a half and about the same size as the Oscar. It would be in a 180. The BGK won't eat anything but bloodworm and isn't the fastest to get to it. The O, JD and clowns all flip over bloodworm and I'd worry that the BGK would struggle to get food.

It really depends on your bgk and the fish you have. Each one has its own personality. Greedy fish like oscars will outcompete the bgk for food but there are work arounds: namely, feed your cichlids pellets first, get them full, then add your bw. Also, it helps if you defrost the bw in water and toss them in so they disperse all over the tank. The bgk has a better chance of finding food imo
