Yesterday my BGK, Cerberus, was just laying down under the log in his aquarium. He looked dead. I moved the log and he moved and swam but it was as if his equilibrium was off. On Monday he had been fine and ate like normal etc. I put the log back and he went right back there and laid down. So I moved him to an isolation tank to observe. I kept the lights off. Today he still won't eat but he stays perpendicular to the tank bottom. I have included a pix. I have tried to search the forums to see if anyone else ever had this occur. We have had him for at least 2.5 years maybe closer to 3. This is t first time he hasever behaved like this an he has never bee sick. His tank mates are behaving normally.

any help is appreciated

thanks

I'd say its normal behaviour to lay down and sleep for them, as mine did this for 8 years; however, I notice in the pic that your BGK has frayed fins...is he being bullied?

whole bottom fin very frayed. +looks stressed.
test & post all water parameters in his main tank.
list tankmates & any changes of them including maturing species &/or spawning ones.
If bgk moved to smaller qt tank, the water params can fluctuate more and faster. do plenty water changes.
be sure his tank is well aerated. but not so much current as to drain his energy in this condition, give restful hiding places.
May be better to move this thread to fw illnesses and diseases for best advice.
has he been eating plenty? and have you seen his poop & checked for any white stringy? have you fed his tank any live food?

what other fish do you have in the tank? He had definitely been bullied. They are generally peaceful and do not fight back well against violent tank mates. also, they lay on their sides when they sleep.

also, in my experience, it takes them almost a month to become settled in properly. Mine never ate for about three days after being moved, however, after a month they would come out in broad daylight to eat flakes from the surface, or live earthworms from my hand.
