Does anyone have any experience keeping these species together? Right now I have a ~12" S. macrurus in a 75 gallon, but pretty soon he'll be moving into a 120 (or possibly larger) and I've been thinking about other fish to add, and I've wanted a BGK for a while now. If I do get one, it will be quite a bit smaller than my current knife (for one, it's hard to find any around here that are close to his size, and also, I've heard BGKs can be more aggressive than he is)

Also, another random question I asked a while back and never got an answer for...anyone who's bought a S. macrurus, or seen one for sale, what is the normal price on them? Mine is the only one I've ever seen for sale (or in person for that matter), and I'm pretty sure I got a good deal as the store had him mis-ID'ed as an African brown and were selling it cheap to get rid of it.

Mixing electric knives is always risky. Especially if there is a substantial size difference, you can presume that one will kill the other. There are exceptions to every rule though, so there is always a chance you can make it work. Just make sure you're willing to risk their lives.

Prices on different knives vary wildly, as they seem like they're not so much in demand. I've seen large gold lines go for $15-50. Things are worth what people will pay for them, simple as that.

I personally wouldn't mix electric fish, but there are people who have done it in a large aquarium set up.

I'm still thinking I might try it. If I do, I'll keep an eye on them and one might have to move back into the 75.
