For the past two days my male senegalus and my female delhezi have been doing the mating dance, swimming side by side, fin flaring/grasping and moving gravel in the corner.

I believe I have seen this question before, however I do not believe it was answered, has cross breeding like this every been accomplished in the aquaria with out the use of hormones?????

I am doubtful anyting will come of my bichers actions, they do seem to enjoy each others company- when the male is not nipping at the fins of the del.(The biting appears to be part of their ritual as before they started this I have never seen it happen)

Sounds like part of the mating ritual.has he done the surface breaching then drop thru the water colum hunched with his fins all up?

I can tell ya in that tank even if something happened unless your watching you'll never know lol-Anne

A sene-del... that'd be so cool :) Keep us updated.

Anne, the senegal has done exactly what you stated, likely in futility, however I will keep an eye on them.

Not bad, but let me ask you this..

What type of surface are the eggs typically deposited on???? I have a little cave made up in the corner of the tank, when I got home the del was in the cave while the sen was just outside. HMMMMMMMMMM
No eggs visible, although with the crew in the tank I doubt any laid egg would last long.

they are egg scatterers and show no parental care in fact they will eat there own eggs.If you really want to try and breed them you need a seperate tank for mating and remove the parents right after or remvoe the eggs-Anne

Thanks, Anne That confirms that impossiblity of this situation. A highly unlikely pairing and a tankfully of fish that would devour eggs(no availible extra tank)
Oh Well, dare to dream

A few cruddy shots of them cozing up in and out of the little cave.
