I have 3 bichirs. One is an 8" Senegal. One is a 12" Ornate. Newest got yesterday is a 5" delhezi. Saw this morning the DELHEZI has rips on its tails and is getting aggression from the 12" Ornate. Is there a way to stop this? Will this eventually stop? The tank has plenty of space for them since it's only 3 of them in a 6 feet tank and only a gar. HELP? ANYONE?

heres a couple of options
A)re arrange any decorations in the tank this will remove territorial boundries
B) add a divider seperating the combatants

I went through that too. Moving the hiding places can help alot. Even if just for awhile (until the work out their major diferences). A little nipping is normal. Causing damage all the time is not.

Do you have enough hiding spots for them? If all of this, doesn't help I would separate them. I eventually had to do that, by giving up the aggressor, and now peace reigns again in my tank...
As long as no one pisses off the ghost knife....

other then what was allready said try feeding the ornate more

IME, removing any 'hiding spots' where only a single fish can hide will help reduce the aggression.

Keep the spaces under driftwood large and open if possible so that multiple bichirs have to share the space. They learn to tolerate each other, and stop fighting.

I like the way having multiple hiding spots allows the bichirs to pick one for themselves, but the problem I have with that method is that they usually do just that, hide and not come out too often.

So when I setup my bichir tank, I tried to compromise and use larger pieces of driftwood with open space underneath them so that there is a 'shady' area where the bichirs can go if they feel stressed, but I can still see them.

It also helps keep maintenance quick :D
