I see many people keeping happy communities of bichir. Unfortunately for me, the beginning of mine ended when my albino sen beat and killed my other reg sen.:nilly: So how is it that these little beauties are kept together with no problems? Was wondering if it was an odd number thing, if they all needed to be added at the same time or what?

Generally, bichirs are mild mannered individuals so you can keep them together without much of a problem. But because they do each have their own personalities and temperaments you can still run into an overly aggressive one. In your case, you probably have a very aggressive bichir so you might have to either house it on its own or trade it in for a different one and try again.

sorry to hear.
you just have an ill mannered one.
normally theyll comm together in any number of bichirs.

once again more good birchir info, tempermant points this time, you guys are helpin me out alot, thanks

Yeah bichirs have personalities just like people to an extent. Sometimes you run into bastards! lol! I have a few in my tank that like to bite other bichirs that come too close to them and their little spots in the tank. Nothing too bad but it happens.

I have known some individual bichirs that claim the entire tank as theirs and sharing isn't an option.it attacks filter intakes, heaters and cats that paw the tank. When given feeders when he strikes you can hear his jaws snap shut about 10 feet away. What he doesnt kill and eat he maims and lets them get weak and dines at his pleasure.A cranky bichir is just a joy to have.-Anne

I wish my lap was like Pickles!! :irked:

Lucky woman! :)

i like to give my fish individual attention & when it comes to my bichir, it likes to put on an elaborate swimming show, but if I pay attention to another fish before it finishes, it'll attack whoever i'm looking at. thats the only time they show aggression. other than that, they're hypnotic!
