.....thats a good question....
Hey everyone, Having problems with my Weeksii. He can't sink, whenever he swims down he just floats right back up. Any ideas what this could be from or how to treat it. Thanks.

does the belly seem swollen or discolored? pics may help..

it may be just some trapped are in the stomach which will pass with some time. just keep the water clean with a water change and keep us updated. i believe some members suggest dosing with some aquarium salt with the water change. will see what the experts say.

good luck.

What are you feeding it?

If it is swimming bladder problem then Interpret 13 might be useful. But need to isolate and treat. Watch the dose and be patient. I took 3 months to treat my endy.

Is its entire body floating or just the rear end?

Many people have had bichirs with "floating rear end" syndrome, most seem to pass the gas on its own, but it may be a sign of something worse. I had a mokelembembe with "FRE", eventually its whole body swelled and it died, it was concluded that it was a bacterial infection.

Hopefully yours will just pass the gas

Whatever it may be, chances are it's bacterial in nature. The best thing to do immediately is a water change/gravel wash to reduce the systems overall population of bacteria. Then, add salt to the tank to improve osmotic regulation in the fish. Polys come from waters laden with calcium chloride so, add rift lake salt if you have it. If not, plain ole table salt (sodium chloride) will do just fine.
If the symptoms advance to where the poly looks to be inflating, it may have bloat. Treatment is in a sticky thread.

Only the rear end is floating so hopefully it is just gas. Will do another water change, add some salt and medication. I feed it hikari sinking carnivore pellets. I'll let you guys know...
