they are know to breed in captivity and for certain the ornate, senegal, delhezi and endli have been reported in the aqualog book.ive had sucess with the senegal but struggling with the ornates now.i reared only a handful of senegal as the parents had eaten most by the time i removed the remaining, and lost a few at a few centimetres, the way to do it is to imitate the rainy season with mature polypterus weather it be 1 year in senegals or 6 in ornates.ive found the males easy to want to breed and they do the nudging and head shake next to the female and cup there any fin around the females genital area.ive had trouble getting the females to prepare for mating by not showing he 'papille' (spelt wrong) and massive aggression to the males only when during the imitation of the rainy season ie soft water to the point were the male looks in a bad shape? has anyone else experienced these?
