I have been interested in keeping a bichir for sometime now. I've never really had room until now though. I have a 75g and a 125g. The 75g is home to an aggressive female festae. She won't allow cichlid tankmates, and constantly harasses my pleco. I have to move him back and forth from the 125 to the 75.

My thinking right now is that a Bichir might be able to handle the harassment the festae hands out until she gets bored and just allows it to co-exist. Am I right? Is a bichir tough enough? I've read they have thick armor-like scales that protects them from much damage... would this be a good idea? Obviously if it doesn't work out in the 75g I can move it over to the 125g.... Just looking for some advice, experience... any is appreciated.

I would not put a Bichir in with a agressive fish you need harmony in the aquarium fish develops stress when harassed . and might not eat develop illnesses Bichirs are tough but no fish like being picked on or bitten.

Bichirs are really passive and aggression like that would increase your odds of it jumping out of the tank or hurting itself during a freak out. I wouldn't do it. If the Festae has already proven itself a terror then dont even risk it.

Ok guys. Thanks for the info. I will steer clear of bichirs, for now.
