I'm not sure if his swim bladder is broken or not or even if thats a correct term

Sometimes he is able to sit at the bottom for a short while, but most of the time he is struggling to stay at the bottom and he keeps floating back up to the surface.

He seems to not be able to swim in an upright direction either. He always does barrel rolls when he tries to swim.

Is there a way to cure him???

Nitrate - 0
Ammonia - .25
Nitrite - 0

I did water changes and put a little salt in the tank. Right now he is just floating at the top with his belly up, it's really freaking me out. He's breathing though.

Please help me

Are you sure it's SBD?

If it is-

Turn off the lights.
Do extra water changes (you should be anyway if your ammonia is .25, ammonia should be 0. The only thing that doesn't have to be zero is nitrate, which should be below 20)

Stop feeding.

If it's caused by a bacterial source, you may need medication. If it's not, medication will not be needed. Here's a link:

how big? i see this kind of problem when they are like 3-4"
I had a small albino senegal that did that and then sort of grew out of it. Stayed at the top and sort of drifted down then swam back to the top.
Not upside down though! never.

Hows it doing this morning -Anne

hes almost 8"
maybe it was something he ate? but i only feed him market shrimp so...

he isnt turning upside down anymore though
his tail end is just floating up to the top and sometimes little air bubbles come out of his anus

he tries to swim back down whenever he floats

ammonia - 0
nitrate - 0
nitrite - 0

i lowered the current and added salt
did another 50% water change today but i will lower the water level to halfway like the website said

do bichirs accept peas?

he seems to be getting better, i mean he doesn't go belly up to the top anymore, just his tail end floats up

thanks for the help guys

and if this isnt SBD, then what else could it be?
im not too familiar with diseases/disorders
