First off i would like to say i'm new to MFK. Next does any 1 know any foods that might make a bichir (senegal) bichir grow faster? And is the min size tank for a senegal bichir?

Welcome!
Any meaty, high protien foods will make a bichir grow quickly. I feed mine Hikari carnivore pellets and raw market shrimp.
For tank size, I would say a 40 gallon breeder would be perfect for a senengal and a few tankmates.

night crawlers, smelt, krill, etc...

Welcome to the boards btw.

well i've found that live feedings really give polypterus a boost in growth.

Make sure if you use feeder fish that the fish are quarentined and gutloaded before being fed, as this makes sure you won't introduce any nasty diseases to your polyp's and it makes it so they get the best nutrition out of it.

feeding feeders and earthworms really boosted my first senegal's growth. the first month i had him i fed him pellets, frozen shrimp and fish, and he grew about 1 1/2", next month i had feeders in the tank for my nandus nandus and the senegal snagged quite a few, and he then grew 2 1/2" in less then that month, including a solid 1"+ in his best week. (you could almost tell a slight size difference every day)

but you can't ever go wrong with good food and clean water.

welcome and if you do good water changes you could try beefheart that help my senegal grow fast and a 40 gallon breeder would be the minimum tank size

Thanks for the info, (btw im in Oxford MI) right now i would say my senegal is about 2-2 1/2 inches and he eats earthworms and feeders, and so far he has been growing pretty fast. Thanks again for the info :)

mine LOVES ghost shrimp and bloodworms. hes only 2''

live food (I used ghost shrimp), meaty foods, beefheart, massivore pellets, warm, clean water, lot's o' love :hearts:
