So I am redoing my 75 gallon aquarium and wanted to know if these fish would work together. The fish with asterisks I already have. Here it is:

1 Convict Cichlid (Archocentrus nigrofasciatus) *
1 Green Severum (Heros serverus)*
1 Featherfin Synodontis (Synodontis eupterus) *
3 Needle Nose Gar (Xenentodon cancila)
1 Senegal Bichir (Polypterus senegalus)
1 African Knifefish (Xenomystus nigri)

If the tank gets crowded, I can always move the needle fish to my 125 gallon. What do you think? Overcrowded?

I wouldn't. The cichlids are a little too aggressive. The bichir might do ok with enough hiding spots but I wouldn't risk it hed just stay stressed. A needlefish would be terrible. My rainbow shark used to push around a needlefish twice his size, they cant really handle nipping.

yes on the convict i kept convicts with my bichirs before the convicts bred an i had to take them out. the convicts an bichirs got along great until they started breeding.

What would make good tankmates for the catfish, the severum, and the convict then? Right now there are 2 small red zebras in there that are being taken out, a swordtail that's being taken out, and 6 giant danios that are being taken out. Would the severum, bichir, convict, catfish, knifefish, and something else work?

Cichlids NORMALLY dont mind polypterus at all. Even when breeding. I have tryed and it works perfect. Notice the cichlids bothering each other instead of the polypterus.

If all the fish are full grown this tank is very overcrowded.
Severums get 10-12" and the african knife atleast 8", also the senegalus can reach 10".
Also, what is your filteration?

I really like the larger fish and I would move any that got to big to my 125. Someone else at my LFS told me that needlefish were aggressive and would be ok. My convict only goes after other rock dwelling fish and the severum is one of the sweetest fish I've ever seen. The needlefish are about 10 inches at the LFS.

All that's in it right now is the severum at 5 inches, the convict at 2.5 inches, and the catfish at 8.5 inches. I just relocated the little fish. The filters are 2 hang on the back whispers and each are rated up to 125 gallons. I also have a wet-dry rated up to 180 gallons plumbed underneath.
