my usually timmed bichir is freaking out today. he is acting completely out of the ordinary. he typically chills in his castle at the bottom most the day. but today he is swimming out of controll from side to side and top to bottom. a lot of top breathing, gills flairing. it is completely unlike him. i've only had him a couple monthes now. he is about 5inches long. he's in a tank all by himself minus about a billion snails keep the place in check.. his diet consist of earthworms and flakes. i'm nervous he clocking out or something.

any help please

should i take a sample of water to the petshop to get tested???

Yes you need to test your water ecspecially ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates. Do a water change immediately.About 30-40%.Then keep an eye on your water quality.lol.

Buy a test kit and make sure u test it at least once a week in the mean time do what crisper said big water change .do u do a water change once a week ?

How long has the tank been set up?

Definitely have your water tested.

Also, bichirs (as well as most fish) are sensitive to having their tank bumped on accident, even the stand.

I have a hyper kitten that sometimes bumps into the stand of the tank when she's running around and the bichirs freak when she does.
