I recently rescaped my tank and was wondering what type of lighting is best for bichir color, the sand is red flint sad and the light I have is the Fluval Plant 3.0, I know garnet sand is best for color, but honestly I like the look of the red flint, what colors do you all reccomend for bichir colors, also the bichirs I currently have are a tuegelsi, delhezi, platnium senegal, and I will soon be getting a endlicheri, and possibly a palmas if Im able to find one. Lighting is going to depend on what kind of effect/look you are trying to achieve. If you don’t know what you want then just trial and error I guess. It’s probably a good idea to invest in an adjustable RGB LED that way you can play around with the light settings. Otherwise your standard 6500k white (close to natural light) should be fine especially on a more natural substrate like red flint sand.
And just a FYI, garnet sand isn’t actually the best for color. It actually varies on individual fish. Every fish is different thus will color up differently on different substrates. I’ve had a good amount of bichirs that looked worse/terrible on garnet sand. Garnet sand is just a safe option for the majority.

To ad on the substrate colour, my bichirs (orantopinis, endlicheri) looked by far the best on very dark sand. Showing very intense patterns and colours. Overall the tank was very dark themed with black sand, large Crinums that took most of the light and only left certain areas penetrated by it ans lots of wood.

Bichirs adapt their colour to the environment, the lighter (like white sand) that is the more bleach they tend to look.

For the light, Bichir colours are usually on the less vibrant side, a lot of brown and black, so playing with different colours won't have much of an effect. Standard white or maybe a bit more of a warm (yellow) white to make it look more natural should be enough.
