Hi! One of my senegalus started to lose her balance while swimming sometime last week, there was no other symptoms, no signs of redness anywhere. When she didn't recover in the next two days, I quarantined her and treated her with interpet's anti internal bacteria treatment. I fed her small bits of pellets sparringly in the three days that followed.

Later on the third day she became agitated, and would dash about and even ended up upside down a couple of times as she kept losing her balance (could it be related to the feedings?)

I changed close to 50% of the water and she seemed better, though i don't dare feed her. Out of desperation, I tried the swim bladder treatment on her, she seemed okay for now(not landing upside down, at least). What can be wrong with her? Can I feed her now or wait till treatment is over?

Not sure if this is a factor, but this sen has always had a s-shaped spinal deformity since i got her from a neighbour.

if a fish cannot regulate what way their body is facing and start swimming sideways or upside down, it sounds like a problem with their bladder. this controls buoyancy and their movement and "balance". if it is this, i don't know if there is anything that can be done

How bad was the deformity when you got it? what size was it? sounds like nothing you can do, just a poor deformed juvie if you ask me.

The bacterial meds would've worked by now.

She's about 7 inches now. When I got her about five years ago, she was probably around 5? She just had a slight hunch at first and unusually fat and thick like a bratwurst but as she grew longer her tail region grew upwards, making it an s shape. She had laid eggs several times before.

The thing with this swim bladder problem is that it could be anything, there seems to be so many causes! Ugh its so frustrating.

could it be some rare case of intestinal clogs, caused by sharp gravel? causing it to have low nutrition.

2 inches in 5 years is reallllyyyy bad
