Hi All!

Hope you all had a happy Thanksgiving (if you celebrate of course). I am in a difficult predicament and its with my lapradei bichir who has started a eating strike. Please advise me on how I can get it to eat.

Tank size: The bichir is 14 inches and in a 100 gallon by itself at the moment, but 2 months before, the tank was inhabited with a 6 inch indo tiger datnoid who I moved due to its increasing size and aggression with the bichir. I noticed as the datnoid got bigger, it would flare with the bichir and chase it away from its territory. No real damage was ever done between the two, but to be safe, I removed the datnoid hoping this would help with the situation. At the time, I also noticed the bichir was eating less too, which caught me by surprise, since just a month ago, it was eating like a champ.

What I feed: Mostly massivores now since my bichir used to love them, also sometimes some tilapia, market prawn.

Tank Situation: my goal for the 100 gallon was to have a "planted monster fish tank" so I stocked it with some larger predatory fish and bought an assortment of higher light plants. Unfortunately the plants did not do too well in the tank so one day, I decided to remove them and "remodel" the tank by changing the decor and rearranging things. After doing this, my bichir officially stopped eating and started digging in the substrate and burrowing.

Hope this is enough information, but I really need advice on what to do moving forward. I haven't seen it eat in the last 2-3 months (although it doesn't look too skinny) so its possibly eating a little here and there. What should i do about the tank? I have a hiding place for it and a cave but the bichir seems to continue to dig and burrow.

Thanks again and please let me know if there are any questions. I can post pictures if needed.

Sincerely,
Ray

Like you stated possibly eating. My large mature Bichir don't eat as much so I feed every other day.
