My dinosaur eel absolutely refuses to eat anything! He'll let small fish swim right past him without even a nibble, he'll just sit there and watch the feeder fish eat his bloodworms, he won't even take a shot at a dead guppie!

The only times I've ever seen him eat was when I first got him and he ate a large goldfish and during the summer when I gave him a backyard worm.

I'm really worried he's going to starve to death or just flat out never grow. By now (if the experts are to be believed) he should be 8 - 10 inches.

Tank Size: 55 Gallon wide
Tank Temp: 75 - 80
Bichir Size: 5 inches

how long have you had it? It takes a while for them to adjust. I wouldn't worry, when it gets hungry enought, it will eat.

That is a long time. What are your water paramaters, and the tank mates?

Do you leave the food sitting there?

Sometimes it takes them a while to actually move to the food.

There is only one small 3 inch pleco, a goldfish and a few guppies.

The food does just sit there on the bottom of the tank. It's often picked at by the goldfish and guppies.

That might be the problem. I would recomend a cave or some where your poly can hide. Then put the food in the cave when the poly is there.

Okay I bought him some Leaf Worms and here's what happened: He swam around them, swam on top of them, sat on them, bit them and then spit them out.

He then repeated this for about 15 minutes before going off to his cave set up.

Ugh.

I did set up a few more cave areas for him but given this reaction to the first thing I've ever seen him eat in forever...what hope is there?

humm..... not sure, im suprized no one else has answered. To be honest, I'v never seen my poly eat the shrimp pellets I feed it. I have only seen it eats the home made blended fish with veg and vitamins. I would try that or wait till someone else responds.
