Was moving my senegalus into a different tank as the oscars started picking on him so scooped him up in the net and moved him into the new tank (after acclimatising even though the water is near exact the same) In he plopped and swam down to the logs. 5 mins later was sitting on the computer and my left hand felt a bit sticky and odd looked down, hand was red with blood!!! wth I thought and saw a lovely deep cut in my knuckle. The little bugger caught me with one of his spine as I did assit him out of the net. Looked over at his smug little grin as he chomped on a shrimp. :grinno: Lesson learned! Dont touch Bruno!!

It didnt stop bleeding until the following morning! lol

That happened to me when i was moving a big ornate but i felt it when it sliced the side of my wrist. ouch! Thats def. something that only needs to happen once..

Thanks for posting this, now i know that bichir spines can cut and now i know to be more careful

I have a similar story only with my piranhas. My favorite out of the shoal decided he wanted to come visit mommy in the land of no water so he jumped right before my eyes I panicked and there was no time to find the net so I picked him up with my bare hands and put him back in the tank. After about 5 minutes i notice a burning on my hand I look and there was 3 bites on my left index finger. I probly didnt feel when it happened cause of his sharp little teeth and the adrenalin of my heroic rescue.

Try a 22" bichir LOL. I knew about the spines all along, I held him and he slipped and my finger caught the spine.

I bled a lot and it was pretty painful

When i was moving mine to a new tank my senegal hit the floor, instinctively i reach down to grab him with my hand. I'll tell you it didn't take a second for the pain to hit. Don't grab them.
