Hello, I have this shortbody bichir that I acquired about a year ago. Everything was fine and he was active and eating last night but when I got home from work tonight he was suddenly dead with this yellow matter coming from the rectal area. All the other fish in the tank are acting and look perfectly fine. Any thoughts on what happened and if I need to treat my tank?

No need to treat the tank. Outside of aggression or crashing hard into the tank, bacterial infection would be my guess. It’s not unheard of an internal bacterial killing that quickly

It looks almost identical as to what happened to my Delhezi, acting and appearing visibly fine 1 day and gone the next.. one of its gills looks to be infected as well. I didn’t treat my tank after just my standard water changes, nothing happened to any of the other bichirs. Thought it was heater burn at first but maybe it was something bacterial now.
