bichir swimming level

ive seen lots o videos and its mostly different my bichir swims high up in the tank and comes down when i feed them is that normal for a very young bichir he is like 3"

They float on the top when they are young because they eat bugs and the like in the wild when they are young. Mine do the exact same.
